Surat, in the Indian state of Gujarat, is the largest market of diamond polishing and cutting in the whole world. More than 90% of the mondial production of diamonds is crafted there. Surat (4.5 mil. inhabitants) has also the fastest expanding economy in India and is ranked as the 2nd cleanest city in India. Nevertheless hundred thousands of people in Surat barely survive living in huts, tents or under the bridges.
